N3 consist of 2 major parts.
1. Switching mode power supply. (12V and 5V fixed output).
Power is control at secondary stage, when you power off, it also consume some power, (will post the standy power at later).
Hints:
a) you can upgrade the components inside of the power supply, say the 100uF/400V, Fast diode, Infineon Coolmos, On-Semi schottky diode, Low ESR capacitor, etc.
b) The output wire (12V and 5V) is too long to main board, you can change to silver wire with shortest path.
c) The output wire from main board to HDD mount is very short(less than 1 inch), it is perfect. (less voltage drop).
d) The output wire from main board to BD drive is too long.
2) Mainboard
There are not over 10pcs capacitors inside mainboard, most at 10uF. Change to Low ESR OS-CON is recommend.
Good DC-DC power converter found in board and the layout is very good, the DC-DC module very close to the main chip. (Reduce the power loss and improve the EMI).
What's KK will do?
Since the MB capacitors is not too much, although changing to good ESR, the improved factor will not too high.
I will do:
1. Re-build a Linear power supply (12V, 5V) instead of using switching mode power supply. All building using Linear Technology LT1085, and using R-CORE transformer.
2. Modify the mainboard capaitor.
3. Adding IEC power socket.
4. Modify the ESR capacitor in the BD drive. (Very high level modification work).
5. Re-build the SATA signal and power cable using "Pure Copper" wire.
(This is a new wire in Hififever, please contact admin for the price)
Please wait my picture upload at tonight.
