Give some hints with my experience. Totally depends on your budget to add an additional MCB for AV equipment. If no budget limit, hire a consultant such as “Audio Link”. If budget limit exists, hire a qualified electrical technician for installation. The basic material cost includes:
1) Additional MCB metal box (no. of MCB position depends on no. of socket outlet)
2) 1 phase RCD (40A~63A) – 1 pc
3) 1 phase MCB (32A~40A) – 4 pcs (if no. of socket outlet is four)
4) PVC pipe – depends on the distance from MCB box to socket outlet
5) Power cable – use three cores with double shielding
6) Socket outlet – subject to European or American standard
The critical cost refers to items #2, #3 & #5 above. Some brands are listed as below:
=>ABL Hot & Cryo (USA): 1-phase 40A RCD x1pc + 32A MCB x 4pcs = HK$ 4,800 per set (Ref: Audio Link at Mongkwok or North Point)
=>Siemen (German): 1-phase 63A RCD x 1pc (HK$ 450/pc) + 40A MCB x 4pcs (HK$ 340/pc) = HK$ 1,810 (Ref: MicAudio at Mongkwok)
=>Schneider (France): 1-phase 40A RCD x 1pc (HK$ 205/pc) + 32A MCB x 4pcs (HK$ 20/pc) = HK$ 285 (Ref: Wah Sun, shop#421 Reclamation St, Mognkwok)
=>Power cable - 3 core, 2 shield, 30A /per feet - Grey Knight at HK$ 80/feet (Ref: Audio Link or North Point)
=>Power cable - 3 core, 2 shield, 30A /per feet - Monster Powerline 400 at HK$ 20/feet (Ref: Wing Shun, shop#214 Apliu St, SSP)
=>MCB metal box - Schneider (France) at HK$ 200/pc (Ref: MicAudio at Mongkwok)
=>MCB metal box – China made without brand name at HK$ 80/pc
If go to Schneider, the total material is around HK$ 3K~4K for all items #1-6. If go to Siemen, the price will be increased by HK$ 1,500. The difference is that the RCD and MCB by ABL or Siemen is cold treatment which claims to be better to sound. The actual difference is subject to individual preference or psychologically feels better.
